The partnership of Greg Vassie and Han Su is simply serendipitous! When Han decided to follow his dream and open an independent pharmacy, he contacted Greg, who he had known for 10 years. It just so happened that Greg recently spoke with Veranda’s developers about the same possibility—and with Han in mind as a partner as well. This dynamic duo knew right then and there a partnership was imminent. And now they have 501 Pharmacy to show for it.
An experienced independent pharmacy owner, Greg opened Pittsboro Drug in 2005 and then Hillsborough Drug in 2010. Greg quickly understood owning an independent pharmacy enabled him more flexibility in helping others, the ability to offer reasonable prices and the opportunity to provide nutraceuticals, compounded medications and diabetes and nutritional counseling.
Over the next decade, Greg predicts continued, local medical population growth, especially with Pharmacogenomics, biological medications and personalized medicine, and believes 501 Pharmacy is well-positioned to offer its community access to these medical directions. As a gateway from Chapel Hill into Pittsboro, he thinks Veranda boasts a particular charm and finds Briar Chapel’s healthy living philosophy in line with the pharmacy’s.
A Pittsboro resident since 2003, Greg has pharmacy in his blood. His great grandfather graduated from the first U.S. pharmacy school. His wife, sister and in-laws are pharmacists as well. He and his wife Jennifer have two sons, Declan (5) and Finn (2), and his family enjoys hiking, playing sports and glamping (sleeping outside in a camper) and holds UNC basketball sacred.
For Han Su, independent pharmacy just made sense. An absolute people person, Han wanted to spend more time getting to know his customers—something he was unable to achieve working under a major retail pharmacy chain. At 501 Pharmacy, Han spends one-on-one time with customers, offering them an unrivaled level of customer service, in order to deliver the best healthcare and to create long-term wellness.
A native of Greenville, SC, Han may have attended the University of South Carolina for pharmacy school, but he was raised a Tarheel fan. He has lived in North Carolina for 18+ years, working in both Chapel Hill and Carrboro, but now resides in Cary with his wife Kristy, Family Nurse Practitioner at Veranda’s Carolina Convenient Care; their three children Abby (15), Kai (5) and Kasen (3); and their miniature Schnauzer Kujo. Han spends free time with family and friends, watching sports and running.
Combining Greg and Han’s experience and customer service, 501 Pharmacy is bound to develop a community following in no time—especially with its added benefits of free prescription delivery and an ice cream parlor. 501 Pharmacy is open Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 6:30 pm; Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm; and closed Sundays. Come visit. Greg and Han are eager to meet their community.
501 Pharmacy is located 98 Chapelton Court, Suite 300, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. Call 984-999-0501 for more information.
